![]() Sennheiser and Epos have purposely modified the noise-canceling algorithm to allow important notifications like train announcements or people speaking to you to get through, to some extent, while limiting droning HVAC or other loud noises as much as possible. That could be because of the way the noise-canceling is set up on these headphones in particular. Where many noise-canceling headphones can feel boxed in and close to your ears, the Adapt 660 are a bit freer. One thing I noticed about the sound signature compared to that of Sony and Bose headphones is how open it feels. The dynamic drivers feel punchy and tight, bringing proper depth to my favorite Kendrick Lamar tunes, but they don't overwhelm with the low end when I watch an explosive movie like The Old Guard on Netflix. What I’m most impressed by are timing and balance. Sennheiser makes some of the best-sounding headphones (and professional-tier audio equipment), so it doesn’t come as a shock when I say the Adapt 660 sound fantastic. Epos even includes special artificial intelligence that works to quiet outside noise when you’re using the four built-in beamforming mics on Zoom or phone calls. Charge them up, turn them on, pair them to your cell phone and laptop (they pair to two devices at once!), and pick one of three noise-canceling settings from a switch on the bottom of the right ear cup. The whole user experience feels like it was designed by an IT department tired of complaints. They float on your head, with the perfect amount of clamping force to stay stable but not hurt the top of your skull over long listening sessions. Every material feels as though it was chosen for the perfect blend of durability and weight, with a special amount of attention paid to how soft and supple the headband and ear cups can be. These are some of the lightest noise-canceling headphones I've worn. With rounded black ear cups, oval-shaped ear pads, and understated silver accents, the Adapt 660 headphones look simple, but they offer a surprisingly novel feeling in your hands. For the cash, they might be some of the best all-around headphones ever made. They’re cheaper than both the Sony and Bose models, at least for now, and they’re even more comfortable and simple to use. Want to be heard loud and clear on conference calls? Buy the Bose Noise Cancelling 700, which have beamforming mics that pick up every syllable.īut after searching high and low, I’m happy to report I’ve finally found another contender worth mentioning: a special, somewhat overlooked collaboration between Sennheiser and Epos Audio called the Adapt 660. Prefer better sound quality when listening? Get the Sony WH-1000XM3 ( 8/10, WIRED Recommends), which have outstanding balance and fidelity. Sony and Bose have been releasing the best wireless noise-canceling headphones for most people over the past few years. ![]() Similarly priced in-ears or wired over-ears (around $200 to $400) may sound better or look prettier, but they’re not as well suited to long-term daily use. Why drive a sports car long distances when you can sit in the back of a Rolls Royce? That’s why I think wireless over-ear headphones with noise canceling are the best solution for everyday listening.

![]() In the 1650s, just before he left Delft for Amsterdam in 1660 or 1661, De Hooch also became interested in the representation of light filtering through window panes, bathing the interiors with a light which is interrupted by the presence of the figures and objects. 4), most of whose interiors use this device which undoubtedly influenced Vermeer. ![]() The idea of locating the figures in a corner of a room recalls De Hooch (fig. In this painting, as in others of the late 1650s, the form in which the painter defines the space has changed in respect to earlier works: rather than directing the viewers gaze towards the area in which the main figures are located through objects placed in the foreground (as in, for example, Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window, the figures here occupy a more open and deeper space. The rarity of Vermeer's paintings and the homogeneity of his work allow us to follow the development of his painting and observe the small variations evident in his pictorial and compositional techniques and his changing thematic interests over the years. In the mid-seventeenth century artists such as Ter Borch and De Hooch created works with such content which undoubtedly influenced Vermeer.` Many such paintings refer to the difficulty of resisting the temptations of the flesh and the dangers of giving into passion, particularly under the influence of wine and tobacco. The use of paintings to comment on courtship and amorous relations is common in the Netherlands in the seventeenth century. As a result, the Young Woman with a Wine Glass has a composite quality that is not sensed in Vermeer's most similar works. Of course, the setting as a whole and to some extent the arrangement of the figures was influenced by Pieter de Hooch. 2), of the early l650s, by Gerbrand van den Eeckhout. The third figure (or 'fifth wheel') in the Braunschweig canvas also recalls characters depicted by Van Mieris but more strongly resembles the idle dandy in A Musical Party (fig. We have moved from the world of Gerard ter Borch to that of Frans van Mieris, where lecherous smiles and embarrassed grins occur more frequently. The same might be said for the behaviour of the figures in the Braunschweig picture, when compared with the couples in the Berlin and Frick paintings. These would be harsh judgements if applied to another painter, but Vermeer shows greater refinement in earlier works. Later figures by the artist, although framed in a similar manner, appear unconstrained by comparison. The seated male figure serves as a cornerstone for the structure, holding together rectangular elements and leftover zones of space (which have little of the presence one admires in most works by Vermeer). Out of necessity, the open window helps to define the corner and connect the table and the chair behind it with the walls. The brisk recession of the floor, which was already risky in the Berlin composition, has now cost the walls their definition as planes and as the perpendicular limits of the room. The shape of the bowing gentleman is also awkward: the contours that in the Berlin and Frick pictures lead so effectively into or around the female figures here form a nearly symmetrical arch of folds, which fall where they are needed to fill ambiguous areas, and foil the thrust forward of the man's head and hand (an effect more expected of an artist like Samuel van Hoogstraten than of Vermeer). For example, the spatial relationship of the table to the figures in the foreground is unclear, and only slightly improved by the white cloth thrown into cover up the problem. 1 The Girl with a Wine Glass (detail)įor all these similarities, however, what is most remarkable about the Braunschweig picture is its somewhat incoherent composition, when judged by the exacting standards of the Berlin design. ![]() ![]() Temple of Khamoon - Obelisk Puzzle Notice how the knot symbol at the top of the mural (shown in the screenshot above) corresponds to the knot symbol on the obelisk (shown in the screenshot below). Have a few metaphors handy that adapt well to whatever situation the client is in. What to do when you don’t know what to do So, at that point, you have to get creative. One of the problems with scripts not directly covered above (though related to your ability to be creative) is that your client may turn up with an issue that you can’t find a script for, especially if you are newly qualified and have limited experience of different issues. (If you want to know how to personalise them, I suggest getting hold of a copy of my book, ‘ Their Worlds, Your Words’ which goes through it step by step.) In the same way, when appropriately personalised to your client, hypnotic scripts can have their place as a source of inspiration and ideas. No-one suggests pilots should be left to fly a plane with the checklist and no other experience but, alongside proper training, it helps. But my theory is this … even experienced pilots use a checklist when flying a plane. I think both sets of arguments have some merit and would never suggest that a couple of inductions and a book of scripts makes you into a hypnotherapist.

Honest and emotionally urgent, God Bless This Mess is a reminder that true growth doesn’t come without strife-and it’s through those dark, messy moments that self-acceptance and love can bloom. “And Jesus still loves me.” Fans will be inspired by the never-before-told stories: the ones about facing depression and anxiety during her pageant years, the ways in which therapy and journaling have proven to be a saving grace, and the previously private moments-both at home and on television-that have shaped the star’s outlook. Using her time on The Bachelorette as a launching pad, Hannah doesn’t shy away from the most painful experiences of her life: moments when her faith was tested, when she feared it was lost, and the moments when she reclaimed it on national television. By pushing against her engrained need to seek approval, and learning how to think critically about her own goals and desires, Hannah inspires others to do the same-and to embrace the messiness that comes hand-in-hand with self-discovery (even if that sometimes means falling flat on your face). Thus what emerges is a quarter-life memoir that speaks to the set of difficulties young women face, and how to move through them with grace. ![]() What she does have is the insight of someone who has spent critical years of her youth under public scrutiny. Hannah knows she doesn’t have all the answers. What it would mean to stop seeking approval from others and decide-for the first time-what it was she wanted from her own life.Īn honest and earnest examination of her own mid-twenties, God Bless This Mess is a memoir that doesn’t claim to have all the answers. She found herself wondering what it would mean to live on her terms. There she was, in her early twenties, with millions around the world examining and weighing in on her every decision. After years of competing in beauty pageants, and then starring on The Bachelorette and Dancing with the Stars, she had become incredibly visible. Suddenly in the spotlight, twenty-four-year-old Hannah Brown realized that she wasn’t sure what she wanted. ![]() Because it’s in the messes where we learn the most-as long as we slow down enough to realize what God is trying to show us.” “My life was a complete mess, and God bless all of it. ![]() Phenomena has been criticized for its rather limited performances and unclear resolution-and certainly Jennifer Connelly became a better actress as she grew up. It should suffice to say that everything the film has introduced along the way does pay off – including an incongruous scene involving the chimp – and does so in maddest way possible. ![]() The solution to the mystery is definitely there and it does make sense – kind of – but the sudden plunge into excess is jarring and, in its own way, curiously delightful. But Phenomena really does stand by itself, both for artistry and total, batshit insanity. For experienced Argento viewer, you know that his films tend to get very weird in the third act, with the build-up to the denouement usually more coherent than the actual climax. What is most surprising about Phenomena is how slow-moving and creepy it is, avoiding more explicit acts of violence in favor of building tension and character. The music here is slightly less haunting than Suspiria, though it does emphasize Argento’s style, with bursts of head-banging rock and shrieking chords to underline apparently banal moments. There’s also a heightened emphasis on characterization and dialogue, especially between McGregor, Jennifer and, um, the chimp. But Phenomena is less soaked with atmosphere than some of Argento’s more popular works-there is the play of light and dark, but none of the flights of color and fantasy that come into movies like Tenebrae or Inferno. There are some excellent set pieces, including one scene where Jennifer summons the help of flies to defend her from bullies, as well as the usual giallo staples of sudden, violent deaths with bright red blood and rolling heads. And for that, it’s actually a refreshing experience. While there are the hallmarks of giallo, especially in the opening scene, the film is more interested in exploring the bizarre affinity between Jennifer and the insects than it is in focusing on the quest for the killer. Phenomena is a rare Argento film in the sense that it doesn’t spend all that much time dwelling on the visual poetry of murder. McGregor discovers that Jennifer has a telepathic connection to insects and realizes that this connection might be the key to finding the killer. ![]() One night, Jennifer sleepwalks and witnesses a murder, then stumbles onto the home of Professor John McGregor (Donald Pleasence), a disabled etymologist with a chimpanzee helper, with whom she forms a close friendship (both the professor and the chimpanzee). The film mostly follows Jennifer Corvino (Jennifer Connelly), the daughter of a famous actor, who arrives in Switzerland to attend the Richard Wagner Academy for Girls (yes, really), where a bunch of violent murders have been taking place. Dario Argento’s Phenomena opens with the brutal murder of a schoolgirl, somewhere in Swiss Alps, by a…well, something chained in a room in a remote cabin. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the past, it has partnered with brands like Mountain Dew and Doritos for similar initiatives.
